How bad can it be to to not train for efficiency?

We have talked in our strength training posts and general philosophy posts about the importance of maintaining muscular efficiency. To achieve this we discussed making sure you are doing neutralizers and integrators, as well as making sure you train the different planes of the body with as much balance as possible. Too much stimulus to one direction of the body can have some serious negative side effects.

I will be honest I have never been a fan of body art, tattoos, pierced body parts (other than ears), and other decorative items have never appealed to me. I think its great that others do ti but I always think ahead to twenty years in the future and wonder if they will still be glad they did it. Still like I said I understand why they do it and who knows maybe some day I will get a tattoo. A small one. There is really no harm in decorating your body like that and I would be lying if I said I did not think that some of it looks cool. Cool on others, just not on me.

Similarly I often wonder if people that destroy their bodies to achieve strength gains or muscle definition will end up regretting it. I mean what are you going to do with all that muscle when you stop training? More importantly what are you going to do with a body that you have destroyed? Here is a video clip of a guy who sets the bench press record at just over 1,000 pounds. Think of how much that is, its insane that he can do this but look at this poor guys posture. Imagine the pain in this mans joints. he has literally ruined himself physically over this goal.

This is an amazing feat but think of the everyday things this guy will not be able to do, throw a ball, play golf, touch his back. Body art is one thing but I have a hard time understanding how to do this to your body. The long term effects would be staggering.
Train for efficiency of movement!!
