As if you needed a Reminder….

I recently came across a great article from the Washington Post back in May. In it the Author, Benjamin Opipari talks about a study that was done in Canada back in the 1980′s in regards to how a sedentary lifestyle relates to a shorter life span.

For quite some time we have discussed how important it is to give your muscular system the necessary stimulus it needs to continue to do the job it’s job, movement of your body. We have gone over the effects it has on your Cardiovascular workouts, how it can impact pregnancy, and even how important it is when sitting at a desk all day. I guess it never crossed my mind to bring up death but I suppose this is quite obvious as well. If you do not maintain some level of efficiency in your muscular system you will die sooner. Makes sense, a little depressing maybe but it does seem to be likely.

I recommend clicking on the link above and reading it. It is a fairly short one but it made me laugh at how obvious this outcome of the study was.
I do not want to give away the ending but the last line is also pretty funny to me. How would one take a break from taking a break exactly? I get what they mean I just found it funny.

We could do a years worth of posts on how important it is to maintain a high level of muscular efficiency due to all the areas of your health. Instead I will keep it simple and agree with this article, workout or die!

    Hi Scott,

A quick clarification to your post. The researchers looked at a group of people beginning in the 1980s, but this was a longitudinal study that went on over the course of several years. The study itself just came out.

    Thanks,
Ben (author of Wash Post piece)

Ben, thanks for clarifying that. Great work on the article, I like to see articles like these that are based on fact and actual research. Is there a way for us to sign up for your articles?

Not really a way to sign up, but I do have a blog here:

The tagline is “Where writing and running intersect,” so I do talk a lot about exercise, specifically how it improves cognition.
