Marathon Update #3: What time of day do you run?

This week was one of the hottest weeks I can ever remember having! That’s just one more reason I am so happy the Portland Marathon is in October, at 7am in the morning when it’s nice and cool. Despite the heat I managed to have a very successful week of training. The only down side was in order for me to escape the brutal heat (over 100 degrees 4 consecutive days) I had to wake up extremely early to run. The other day I got up at 4:00am in the morning to get in a good twenty minute warm-up before leaving on one of my long runs. I completed my seventeen miles in 1hour and 55min, a new best for me. I was really happy with my time and was even more grateful for the “cool” weather (it was still about 75 degrees). I have run in the heat several times this summer, but I would highly recommend getting up early, or waiting till dark, if you can manage it. We were recently on the news in Portland as they came and talked to us about precautions we take when training in the heat. Check it out here. What time of day do you like to run/workout? What have you been doing to beat the heat and continue to stay on track with your training?
Training for the Portland Marathon has really been a great experience so far. I am learning a lot about running and how my body responds as well. I will cover these as I train, including: Good running locations, finding the right shoes, and nutrition.

Wow great job! If you hold that pace you're running a little under 3 hours for the marathon! I bet you can get that with your training in the next couple months. Good luck
