Josh’s Quest for the Boston Marathon Part #6
- 2 Comment
This last week of training has been the most challenging week for me so far, both mentally and physically. On the physical side of things I got my first taste of what it means to have a distance-runner pain symptom. In all the time that I have run distance I have never experienced anything quite like this. It makes sense to me though, because I have also never run this far while focusing on my distance training.
The diagnosis of my foot pain resembles that of Plantar Faciitis, which is essentially uneven pressure on the foot. The foot is
designed to take pressure evenly throughout when you walk, run, jump, etc. When the misalignment of the leg causes the foot to strike the ground in an unnatural way it applies too much pressure in the given area of the foot. This is what I believe happened to me.
I was only able to do about 5 miles earlier this week due to the foot issue. I did some of the exercises that I know to help with realignment of the skeletal system and I was able to make it to almost 9 miles just 2 days later.
Although my training has made me much more efficient my body still has “gaps” of inefficiency. As small as these inefficiencies may be, overtime, they can slowly worsen. Luckily at Train2move we understand this and better yet we understand that with the correct stimulus, we can fix the problem. In the long run I think this experience is good for me. It has helped me to stay persistent and focused on my training. Also it will help me to better understand exactly how to deal with issues like this and share the results of that with all of you.
In the mental scheme of things I will be stronger, knowing I have battled my way through a tweak here and there. Within a day or two I look forward to being back on track and ready to go!
