Josh’s Quest for the Boston Marathon Part #8

This week, finding time to run..

Wow! I was expecting the first week of college to be full, but it was just crazy!  I never thought it would be so hard to find enough time in the day to go for runs.  I am happy to say though that I am back n schedule with my training in terms of consistency.  I have figured out a time that works for me to get in the necessary miles without sacrificing my other priorities.  What kind of crazy schedules do you have to manage and still maintain your training?  If you have any creative ideas I invite you to share.  I know in the last week I have had to resort to waking up early on several occasions, as well as do my long runs primarily on the weekend when there is more time.

I was able to almost completely eliminate the foot issue I ran into thanks to some proper muscular efficiency training. Through a process of proper stimulus to the muscular system I was able to make sure that the bones in the lower legs were in proper alignment. I also think the shoes I was wearing may have affected me and i will discuss this later.

This weekend I tried a new run. I ran 14 miles from George Fox University, in Newberg, all the way to my house in Tigard.  It was kind of fun to be able to see how far places are in running time.  One thing I have realized since starting my training is that on the longer runs you really do have to go further than you think.  George Fox is about a thirty-minute drive from my house, but it’s only an hour and a half run.  If I wanted to run the full marathon distance I would have had to run all the way there and almost all the way back, give or take a few miles.

Running a marathon really is an insane distance when you think about it, but the achievement is more than worth the hard work, hundreds of miles, and buckets of sweat.  The Portland Marathon is less than one month away! The road to Boston continues….

I agree Josh when you have to run for a lot of miles it is surprising how much distance you actually go. You do not realize it but a 15 mile car drive actually gets you pretty far, running it is crazy.

"My body has not reacted well with working a desk job.  I am only 25, but have been having a lot of pain that has built up over the past 6 months...The cubicle workouts have truly helped, I cant even begin to tell you...so much better! Thanks Scott, love the routines!" Brandon
