What Shoes Would You Wear for a Marathon?
We had a good time watching the thousands of runners this past week at the Portland Marathon, and specifically we watched to see what the most common shoe choices were. There was a big variety due to the sheer number of people that were running but a few stood out to us as the most common choice amongst the runners.
Eat This Not that, A Nice Nutrition Tool

I recently renewed my subscription to Men's Health and at that time an add popped up for a book called Eat This Not That
. It is written by David Zinczenko, the editor-in-cheif for Mens Health and Matt Goulding, the food and nutrtion editor for Men's Health. I thought the book looked interesting so I went ahead and ordered it.
Final Update on the Presidents Challenge
With just few days left to go in the 2009 Presidents Fitness Challenge my son is closing in on his goal of achieving the SIlver Medal in the Champions Challenge.
He has worked incredibly hard at it and I have been impressed with how well the program encourages kids to keep going with the scoring updates. He is almost to his 45,000 he needs for his Silver Medal and he is quite proud of himself.
Memorial Day Bike Ride
My son and I went for our longest Bike ride yet today. He just turned 8 this weekend and we had a great ride of at least 7 or 8 miles. What a joy it is to be able ride with him now that he is getting old enough to take out on some of the busy roads around our area. I am not sure what the weather is like where you live but things have just started getting nice this year in the Pacific Northwest. It has been a long cold wet spring. Now that the weather is nice I love to do as much as possible outdoors.
3 Reasons why Not to do the Stairmaster
I have seen far too many people ruin themselves on Stairmasters over the years that I wanted to share some reasons why you should
avoid them. First let me share with you the worst part of the first job I had in the fitness industry. It was in the early 90's and I was hired as a maintenance guy. My duties included all sorts of gross things but none were as bad as cleaning a the Stairmasters. They were on these plastic mats and I would see guys especially get on these things and just go nuts for 45 minutes to an hour sweating up a storm. By the time they were done there would be a lake of disgusting sweat from every inch of their body pooled on the mat. I am getting sick to my stomach just thinking about it again.
Product Review – "Cardio Max" DVD from the Biggest Loser Series

This is our second review of a product form the Biggest Loser television series
. Much Like the first video review we did this one uses the trainers from the show but this time they also bring some of the contestants from the show to work out along with you. This is where it gets interesting. Looking at the way they move on screen is a site to behold. I am very proud of these people for choosing a new more health oriented lifestyle but I was shocked at how bad their form was on many of the exercises. I will discuss this a bit more in detail in the efficiency section.

Product Review – Wii Fit
Every Holiday season there is a new great "thing" that everyone must have. Christmas of 2007 was without a doubt the Nintendo Wii. They were sold out everywhere and people were paying over a $1,000.00 for a $299.00 item. Memo to self, next time there is a video game system about to come out, pre order ten of them then sell them to everyone who did not at a huge profit.
Product Reviews – 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels

With the popularity of the Biggest Loser it was inevitable that there would be some workout videos available to purchase. Jillian Michaels has become a huge star in the training world and rightfully so, she knows her stuff. I was excited to review this video with my training philosophy class. It is available just about everywhere but I secretly love Amazon.com (if you can't tell already) ad ordered it from there
for about $11.00 with shipping.
